My name is Erika, I have been a private practice clinician for nearly 20 years. I am a graduate from both JFK University and the University of Oregon. I hold a Masters degree in clinical psychology. I have a specialty in working with addictions and trauma. I knew very early in life that this was the work I wanted to do, and have been fortunate enough to spend my life helping others. I have worked at the Haight-Ashbury Free Clinics, and collected data for UCLA Neuropsychiatric Institute. I also worked for several years at Thunder Road Adolescent Recovery Hospital.
I have expertise in working with both complex and single incident trauma arising from childhood neglect, addictions, violence and combat. As a result, I use many modalities in my clinical work.
I treat anxiety, depression, addictions, PTSD and Attachment Disorders.
In my years of experience I have seen the need to offer more than just psychological services. I have found phenomenal professionals to work with you. We offer psychological treatment, Chinese Traditional Medicine, Energy work, and Meditation and Mindfulness Practice
I also have a private practice and provide consultation for other clinicians. And am on the faculty for the Parnell Institute. I am raising 2 wonderful children, and enjoy outdoor activities and spending time with people. And of course, learning.
Please feel free to contact me.
Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)
EMDR is an integrative psychotherapy approach that has been extensively researched and proven effective for the treatment of trauma. EMDR is a set of standardized protocols that incorporates elements from many different treatment approaches. To date, EMDR therapy has helped millions of people of all ages relieve many types of psychological stress. Although EMDR therapy has been fully validated only for PTSD, there are numerous research studies underway evaluating applications to a wide range of disorders. Excellent results have already been achieved with myriad diagnoses. In addition to the reduction of symptoms and the strengthening of adaptive beliefs, the client’s experience of self and other typically shifts in ways that allow the person to respond in a healthier way to current and future life demands.
AF-EMDR (Attachment Focused EMDR)
Attachment Focused EMDR was created by Dr. Laurel Parnell, this information is from her book Attachment EMDR- Healing Relational Trauma.
AF-EMDR is client centered and emphasizes a reparative therapeutic relationship using a combination of 1) resource tapping, to strengthen clients, 2) EMDR to process traumas and 3) talk therapy to help integrate the information from EMDR sessions and to provide healing derived from therapist-client interactions. AF-EMDR can be used for clients with severe early attachment trauma, as well as for all clients who require that the therapist attend to their needs as unique individuals.
